As all Volvo enthusiasts will know, this model was the last of the rear wheel drive, 6 cylinder, straight-engined, luxury Volvos before they went to front wheel/transverse engine with the 850. This is the CD model which was top of the range with just about everything on it. There are not many of these left wth this sort of mileage. (Averaged 10K miles per year.) Renowned for their cavernous boot space, the specification includes:

· Climate control, serviced and re-gassed 6 months ago.
· Grey Leather seats (no tears)
· Electric driver seat with memory
· Electric front passenger seat
· Heated front seats
· 7 seats (original factory fitted)
· 4 speed automatic gearbox with sport, economy & winter settings
· electric sunroof
· electric heated mirrors
· Volvo premium sound system
· Volvo factory fitted detachable tow bar
· Tinted windows
· Electric windows all round
· Headlamp wipers/washers
· Integral central child booster seat

History
I have owned this car for nearly four years since February 2007. I bought it from a Saville Row tailor who used it to transport bespoke suits to the likes of David Beckham and other celebrities. It was important to me to find a solid example as I wanted my wife to use it to drive our two young babies in it. The seller seemed very genuine and I have not been disappointed and the car has been great.

New job and a company car means this 960 is now surplus to requirements so its for sale. But if I can't get a good price for it, I will keep it and enjoy it. It is a good car which I know I can rely on.

Service History
The car has partial documented service history from Volvo and independent garage as follows:

19/05/95: Delivery Date
30/01/96: Service at Volvo dealer at 10,524 miles (10K miles service)
19/07/96: Service at Volvo dealer at 18,907 miles (20K miles service)
10/01/97: Service at Volvo dealer at 28,840 miles (30K miles service)
22/10/97: Service at Volvo dealer at 40,719 miles (40K miles service)
08/09/96: Service at Volvo dealer at 54,868 miles (50K&60K service)
07/06/00: Service at Volvo dealer at 87,448 miles (90K miles service)

Then I have no service history till I had it serviced as follows:

April 2007-service at the time of its MOT, including oil and filter change
April 2008-service at the time of its MOT including oil and filter change
April 2009-taken off the road as I did not need it for daily use
Jan 2010- Just 2500 ago it was serviced at the time of its MOT. Including oil and filter change.
April 2010-Timing belt and pullies and serentine belt replaced with original Volvo parts.
May 2010-Air con serviced and regassed by mobile specialist.

Mechanicals

The car has covered about 153K miles which as anyone who knows Volvos is nothing for these cars which go on easily to 300,000. Please do not compare 153K miles on a Volvo with 153K on a Ford or Vauxhall which rarely make it to these high mileages.

In the 4 years of ownership, the car has never let us down. It has always started and run smoothly without any problems. It is fast and delivers effortless power from its 205HP straight six engine. The engine uses no oil. The gearbox changes up and down as it should. Brakes are strong and the power steering works fine. There are no leaks from anywhere that I can see.

I have only ever refilled the coolant with original Volvo coolant for its corrosion resisting properties.

The auxillary belt, timing belt, idler pulley and tensioner pulley were replaced about 2000 miles ago. So, it is good for another 80,000 miles before this job needs to be redone. I ensured original Volvo parts were used for the timing belt and pullies given the consequences should these parts fail. The auxillary belt is a Dyco item. I have the receipts and old parts to prove this work was done and the date.

Climate Control
This car has climate control/Air conditioning. The air conditioning system was serviced and regassed about 6 months ago by a mobile a/c specialist. He did a thorough job and although more expensive than the cheap KwikFit regassing, I have used him before and I know he does a professional job. The a/c is ice cold.

Bodywork
The paint is solid navy blue with colour-coded bumpers, roof rails, door mirrors and door handles. I have polished it regularly to protect the paint. The bodywork is rust free apart from a 50 pence piece size bubble on the tailgate under the number plate. The tailgate is aluminium so I cannot see this as a problem. Clearly, this is a 15 year old car and the bodywork is far from perfect having the odd ding and scratches commensurate with its age and usage. However, I have touched up any scratches with touch up paint to ensure no rust occurs. The edges of the front bumpers have been scratched in the past but I have touched these up too. Different people have different views on judging bodywork condition so I will leave you to judge this for yourselves.

Tyres & Wheels
I have just had two new Pirelli P6000 tyres fitted to the front. They have about 300 miles wear on them. These were expensive tyres but as with everything else on this car, I prefer to fit quality and original parts wherever possible. The rear tyres are still good, one is a Dunlop and the other a Firestone. Wheels are Volvo original alloys, 16 inch.

Interior
The leather seats are all unmarked and I have regularly treated them with leather cream. Both the front seats are electric the driver's one having memory settings. The front seats are heated although it is hard to tell how hot they get. There is a third row of seats in the boot floor which were original Volvo fittings. There is a child booster seat integrated in the middle of the second row of seats. The tops of the door trims suffer from the usual Volvo wrinkles/splits due to the sunlight. All the electric windows work as do all the other controls and radio/cassette which is Volvo's Premium Sound System. There are three original Volvo rubber mats and a non original one, all in good condition. The roof lining is in near enough perfect condition as far as I can see. It has the footwell lighting to the front which is a very nice touch

I replaced the windscreen wiper switch/stalk with a brand new original Volvo item a few months ago as it was faulty. Now works perfectly.

Other
The car has an original Volvo removable tow bar fitted with electrics. The car comes with two ignition keys and one remote locking key fob. It comes with the owners' manual in the Volvo wallet. The car will be washed and vacuumed before being handed over. It was recently polished. Any inspection is welcomed and encouraged as I am sure this is a very straight car with no major issues.

There is a small repaired chip on the windscreen to the bottom left near the bottom edge which does not hinder vision as it is on the road tax disc holder.

Given the amount recently spent on this car, I am offering it for sale for £1495for it. No doubt you might find slightly cheaper ones but you get what you pay for and cheaper ones will not have had all this money spent on them. It has had the following spent on it not many miles ago:

£350 worth of timing belt/pullies work
£112 worth of new road tax
£80 worth of A/C service & regass
£180 worth of Pirelli P6000 tyres
£70 worth of wiper stalk/switch

PLEASE-NO SILLY OFFERS. IF THIS IS OUTSIDE YOUR BUDGET, I KINDLY ASK YOU NOT TO WASTE YOUR TIME OR MINE. I AM AFRAID I WILL NOT LET THIS GO FOR A SONG. I DON'T NEED TO SELL. I HAVE ALREADY TURNED DOWN AN OFFER FOR £1250 FROM SOMEBODY WHO CAME TO VIEW IT (AND THAT WAS WITHOUT THE NEW 6 MONTHS TAX ON IT). PLEASE ONLY CONTACT ME IF YOU ARE GENUINELY INTERESTED AND CAN AFFORD THIS PRICE OR VERY CLOSE TO IT. To see pictures please go to this link:

You kidding, Sally? I had one of these until recently and they're just beautiful to drive. Having to do something as vulgar as clutching and changing gear would spoil the whole experience. I'd buy this (or another 960 auto) in a trice if I could afford it. I'm an auto convert!

Default 95 960 cd estate

Hmm. Yes, I've got bagged by a high price V70, but it has 86k miles so maybe it's sorta ok! Pricing at the moment seems to be haywire.
There have been a number of 97-98 V90's advertised, 4 , with over 100k in every case but priced between £1150-£1999! Seems that only the £1999 one is left, so were the others priced correctly?
I add that there are very few 960 Estate's advertised so rarity is a factor as well?

Cheers,

Jon

Wait till petrol is £8 per gallon, then these things will be nearly worthless.
Who will want to pay 50p per mile round the town ?

Well said, Des! Why is the "public transport versus private car" policy always plenty of stick and damn-all carrot?

If the government wants people out of cars and onto buses and trains, then they can only justify making petrol dearer if they make trains and buses comparatively cheaper. Why don't they? Oh, yes... privatisation under the b****y Tories means the two components aren't within the same control regime.

I had to sell my beautiful 960 cos of rising fuel prices, yet my train fare went up by 11% in January.
