Default Cutting out

I'm having problems with my Lreg 440li. The engine starts no problem at all times. However when driving and when changing down the revs die and the engine cuts out. This fault had at first been intermittent and usually only happened after 20 or so miles but now it is happening much more often. Took the car to a local garage but they cannot find the fault.
I cannot afford Volvo main dealer garage. Anyone know where or how I could find a Volvo expert who won't cost me more than the value of the car.

Is the car carb or injection, single point or multi point?

Hi.

I would say it is worth taking it to a dealer and ask them what it could be. These cars are old enough that they know basically every fault with them now, so they should be able to tell you what is wrong almost straight away, and it may not be that costly to fix...

Probably a good idea Dan. Should have perhaps done that in the first place.

Hi.
Just remember when taking to a dealers, it helps if you describe the fault as accurately as possible and ask if they can just have a quick look in case it is something simple.

Even if they ask you to book it in, tell them that you can't afford a big bill and you want notifying if anything major needs doing before any work is carried out, and even then say that if they change something and it doesn't fix it you don't want to pay for something you didn't need.

My friends had a carb 440GLE and that kept cutting out and jerking...
like it was on Kangaroo fuel. They had the carb removed and completely cleaned and the problem went away. Maybe it is just the carb being gummed up?

Cheers,
Dan.

Hi.

I have a P reg. 440 LE 1.8i. I had a problem with the car cutting out at junctions. Several trips to local garage failed to find any fault. Problem occurred passing main dealer (100 miles from where i live!!) was immediately diagnosed as a partially blocked vacuum hose from inlet manifold. (part no.3269016-6)

Hope this is of some help :)
