Thanks

Seeing a big variety in prices... Am I to assume from the prices that AC Stag kit is the cheapo option, BRC the midrange and Prins the optimal ?

Do the price differences reflect quality differences?

Cheers
Chris

I only have direct experience of the Tartarini kit fitted to my V70, and it has been brilliant for the last 215,000 miles!

The kit is half the story, but even the best is no good if it isn't fitted properly.

LPG is only worth it if you intend to keep the car a long time and use it a lot - 25,000 miles a year or more for at least years. If you do a lot of short journeys then LPG won't be so successful because the car will run on petrol for the first mile or so of every trip. If you do a lot of long trips then LPG is a winner. Check that there's a filling station or two near where you are. No point in driving 30 miles just to fill up!

Assuming that's your plan then it'll pay you to take your time and choose the right kit from the right conversion company. Sadly I do believe that there are LPG cowboys out there!

Make sure that the fitter you choose is on the UKLPG register.

Get two or three firms to quote, in writing, giving you their recommendations for the best kit for your car.

Get details of the warranty - in writing.

Visit their premises. Does it look like the sort of place that you'd want to be pulling your car apart?

Ask if they've done other conversions to the same model car as yours.

As you'll see from if you have a browse through the LPG forum on here, some conversions are a fabulous success story, others are a nightmare.

Get the biggest tank you can.

Be wary of anyone who says it can be done in a day. It probably be can, but can it be done well? Most fitters seem to need two or three days at least.

Service the car before the conversion and fit all new ignition electrics - plugs, dissy, rotor, leads etc.

Take your time, do your homework, and only make a commitment once you're 100% sure.

Cheers

Thanks for the general advice about how to find a good fitter and how to prepare for conversion

It was as it happens stuff I already knew to do and intended to do, but its appreciated. What I really wanted though was feedback from people who have actually used LPG conversion services in the home counties to have their volvo converted, as thats the one thing I cant get from careful research

So - has anyone had a Volvo converted to LPG in the home counties, and would you recommend the firm that did it?

Cheers
Chris

I'm at the wrong end of the country so to speak to recommend directly a fitting company in your part of the world, but what I can say is that I've had excellent service from the Tartarini kit fitted to my V70 by Autogas 2000 in Thirsk.

On their website, Autogas 2000 list one firm local to you as one of their independent 'Approved Installers':

Herts Autogas
Knebworth
Contact: Richard Neville 01438 829000

If they were to do as good a job for you as Autogas 2000 have done for me over the years then you won't be disappointed.

Cheers
