Default £50 to replace a "Bubble"

For a week or two the low coolant light has been lit on the V70, the float has decided to sink so while in Halfords buying some bits I needed I decided to have a little "Fun" last weekend:

Me (acting very dumb throughout): Can one of you have a look at why a light is on on my dashboard.

Opo: Sure, which car?

Me: The V70 over there.

Opo: Oh it's a red light that's not good, do you know what it is for?

Me: No idea but the car runs fine.

Opo: Do you have the handbook for the car?

Me: Sure it's in the glovebox why?

Opo: It might tell us what the light is for.

Me: Oh I never thought of that.

Opo: few minutes with the book, it's a low coolant alarm, we sell coolant so we can fix this can you open the bonnet.

Me: Sure.

Opo: Strange the tank looks to be full, let me go and get someone else to take another look.

Opo_2: These cars have a float that trips a switch it looks like the float has sunk.

Me: How can a float sink, they are designed to float? (still acting dumb but finding hard to keep a straight face).

Opo_2: Well if the bubble of air escapes the float will sink and put the light on.

Me
: As you sell car parts can you sell me a new bubble for the float?

Opo_2: We don't sell bubbles.

Opo_1: I will go and ask the manager if he has any in the back room.

I got in the car and drove off at this point as it was too difficult to keep a straight face.

On a serious note though best part of £50 to fix the bubble, new coolant expansion bottle and cap, at least the damn light has gone out - Mike

Last time was the price of oil:

Me: My mates car needs some oil, can you advise as to which one:

Opo: What model of car?

Me: Its a Chrysler thing that looks a bit like an old yank type car

Opo: Ah I know the model, come with me

Mate: gets handed the bottle of oil (as he is paying)

Opo: It's 5_30 that stuff that you need

Get to the till and holy hell breaks out as the till price is £19:99, my mate is adamant it is only £5:30 as that is what he was told, I ended up leaving the store as my sides hurt from laughing so much - My mate hadn't got a clue about oil grades or prices which made it all the funnier - Mike

Its funny winding up staff.. I do when im bored sometimes..

The best one recently was when I was searched going though customs in Leeds and I had a Router/Access Point in my bag.

They asked why I had a router with me and my reply was

"Some hotels dont have Wi-fi So I take my own"

He then replied

"That a good idea, cost loads to use your mobile when your away"

LMFAO

Whats the point of beeing a jerk and wasting peoples time? Aren´t you the same guy that "professionally" inspected the Ford Explorer that classicswede converted? This puts a dent in your credibility.

Very funny story.

It certaintly made me laugh.

Mike is a sound guy and did me a very good turn when he did not have to.

I think the story more importanly illustrates that for the more less informed upon us, eg My Wife (lets face it, if you are on this website, you are interested in cars and what makes them tick) that this is the type of advice you are likely to receive from the young guys or girls working in Halfords.

That is not to say you could come across some good individuals as well, but my observations would be similar to Mikes - Advice that may not be very sound, to the uniformed public who believe they know all about cars - Which makes it more funny for the better informed.

Volvobaggen,

Have to say mate, have a laugh, life really is too short. Anyway, I don't think any Halfords employees were harmed or mentally scarred during the making of this little sketch, so I wouldn't worry too much!

Cheers,

Rich
