Volvo didn't start to use "VIN" numbers until 1975 and even then the rules for how a VIN number was made up hadn't been internationally agreed. If your Canadian built Amazon used the same numbering method as the Swedish built cars there should be a chassis number stamped horizontally into the bulkhead, in the engine bay, just above the heater box. As it was stamped before final paint it may be hard to see. Rubbing down the area with wet and dry may be needed. Expect to find about 14 digits with maybe an * after them.

Try sending an email to Volvo Archive.
The contact keeps changing so you may have to do some additional emails to find the right person. https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showt...+number&page=2 If that doesn't work try sending an email to museum@volvo.com Last edited by c1800; Sep 16th, 2019 at 21:42. |

TKS;
Isn't Hagerty an insurance co?...so why would they be able to help with numbers? You need to locate numbers on the vehicle...for this, see Derek's good info...and have your documentation made out using those...then give the insurance co or agent the number to issue the insurance against... Cheers |

I think the OP is looking for an independent source to verify that what he is proposing to his DMV is actually the serial number. I've read about similar issues. Some have successfully used internet info to support their claim.
This might be of some help in this regard. http://www.volvoamazonpictures.se/pr...production.php Searching for the appropriate data that supports that the serial number is the "VIN" may help. My 1800, bought out-of-province is registered with the last digit of the model type - 3, and then the serial number XXXXX. I didn't point out this anomaly at the DMV when i registered it, to avoid opening up a can of worms. Last edited by c1800; Sep 17th, 2019 at 05:42. |
