I can only guess what it might be worth, sadly more than I would have if I sold all of the cars I have I think !
I like the uncomplicated engine bay, I assume it's carburetted, I didn't realise any came like that. Last edited by cumbrianmale; May 11th, 2015 at 20:23. Reason: Return to original |

And the carb set up is reliable enough? I have memories of reading on here about a bad carb came on some models that was hard to set up/get running correctly….could be my imagination tho!

I have recently purchased a 1986 744GLa with the B230K and it has original carburettor - the car never fails to start, no problem. I also have a 1986 745GLa with a B230K that has been in my family for over 28 years.

The independent volvo specialist rang to say the carb is installed but it's still stalling. Turned out that the green fuel pump relay was faulty! It ran really well with the weber carb and would do about 80mph in 3rd for about 18 months. The weber carb jets kept blocking with crud and would remove them and clean them even with a new filter. The symptoms would be erratic idle and the rev counter bouncing wildly up to 3,000rpm Never got to the bottom of it as it got so bad and worse cleaning wouldn't work. Ended up trading the car for a new one. In the 2 weeks wait for the new car it ran perfect I feel the Pierberg carb was better than the weber. Didn't the carb 740 continue until 1990-91? My 240GLT with B230E has been faultless I loved my 740 GLE called "Roger" D795RJW" as it was my first car and loved the comfort and space and liked tweaking it like adding an electric sunroof motor from a 940etc. It had the red cloth interior that I liked.
