Volvo v70 2.4 Bi-Fuel 2003yr. Stepper Motor problem
Hi,
it's my first post, so sorry for any confusion and please be mercy for my english I'm the owner of volvo v70 bi-fuel from 2003yr. I have problem with necam koltec gas instalation. I have visited gas specialist, and he has found a problem with stepper motor. Rest of the instalation is completely ok. The only solution is to replace the old stepper motor with new one. I have found the new stepper motor but the cost is more than 300 pounds. Please could You be so kind, and give me an advice where I can find used stepper motor. Maybe it would be much cheaper and it would be worth to risk to buy such a thing. I'm from abroad and here in my country there is realy hard to find this part. Koltec Necam is very rare gas instalation. I saw few threads with similar problem and the opinion was to try to find used parts, but I dont know where to look for it. I would be very grateful for any helpful advice. Kind Regars, Aleksander P.S. If the thread is wrongly placed, please Admin to remove thread in to correct place. |

There is an LPG section further down the board which MAY get more attention.
The stepper motor is a weak point on this car, and expensive as you've found out. I had an S60 bi-fuel which had a faulty stepper motor, I ended up having to buy a new one from Autogas2000 who are based near Thirsk. I couldn't source a known good 2nd hand unit at the time, but it may be worth keeping an eye on ebay and similar sites for someone breaking a bi-fuel. What are your symptoms? Will it switch to gas at all? |

First of all thank You for reply.
My problem is typical. Car runs on petrol completely fine. When engine is cold it switches to gas with no problem. After driving for let say 5 kilometres the engine is cutting off gas, and there is no possibility to turn on gas again. When temperature of the engine drops it is possible to run on gas again. When car runs on gas there is no difference with running on petrol. Car moves flawless and speeds up fluently. I've visited mechanic (I think that he is the best specialist in Poland) and he has checked the pressure and rest of details of installation. He could not find any others problems than a stepper motor. But I was wondering that maybe problem is with temperature? Are there any part that is responsible for reading the temperature in gas installation? Maybe the solution will be cheaper than replacing the stepper motor... Once again sorry if I made some terrible language mistakes |

If it is the stepper motor the price you have is about right - my S80 needed a new stepper motor 4/5 years ago and from memory it was around £260 plus tax. Which was about 40% of the cost of obtaining the same part from Volvo dealer.
The symptoms for my problem were different - the car would just cut out on LPG for no obvious reason (at any temperature) but would run fine on petrol. The motor was sticking and flooding the cylinders with LPG. After a while it ran fine on LPG........... until it cut out again.... |

I would not recommend a second hand stepper motor. I've had a 2003 S60 BiFuel for seven years, and had two new stepper motors in that time. If you get one installed, ask if the garage can also clean out the gas distributor, as they accumulate deposits from LPG even if the filters are changed regularly. I had mine done last year; it now has 146000 miles, and it runs well.

I started a new thread here for my S80. I wonder if its worth spending more money on it, or just scrap it: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showth...85#post2026585
