Default Heater fan (again !)

I know that this is a well worn topic on the forum but I wondered if there is any way of lubricating the fan/motor without removing it. Mine makes a bit of a screech (cured by switching to 3 for 10 secs and then back to 1) - sounds like a dry bearing I guess.

If not I will leave it 'till the whole thing packs up before taking the dash out.

Take out the radio (or whatever you have in the upper dash position) and the vents and ducting below that. If you have thin transparent hands and an extremely manouverable long oiler then you may be able to get some oil to one end of the fan motor, but you will have to do it again in a couple of months time anyway. Or you can try cutting or drilling holes in the box (make sure you don't hit the heater core) to get access and then sealing up with duct tape but I can not bring myself to perform that sort of vandalism.
To do the job properly the whole dash does not have to come out, just the central console section which disassembles quite easily. Then you can rotate the heater box out.

Andrew

Andrew (UK), you make it sound like a fun job! .

I've got a worn fan and motor for rebuilding if anyone is interested. I guess it could be rebuilt and tested on the bench.
