Default Call from dealer

I've also noticed a drop in MPG lately but no loss of power or performance.
As yesterday was my very first visit to any forum so I was amazed at the level of info available, and just wonder whether dealers read them ?
This morning I received a call to say that the EGR valve and cooler was now in stock and they would collect the car on Monday morning.
I queried why two components and was told that it is a "Volvo" decision to change both.

Some do, most do not. They would all be better if they did as it would give them better product knowledge. One forum I used to be on that put forward a thoery of plausible deniability. If the salesmen did not know a new model was coming out, if they did not know that a common fault was occurring, if they did not know that real mpg was a fraction of the claimed figure etc. then they can sit in front of a customer with a clear conscience and give their poor quality sales patter. Going on a forum would enlighten them and mean they would have to knowingly lie. Fine for some, harder for others. The more I speak to sales staff in dealers the more I agree with this theory.

100% agree - my dealership's Sales Manager states that his team have to sell what is available TODAY & until Volvo officially tell them what will be available TOMORROW they are not interested as you cannot sell it NOW.
This theory applies across all sales markets - it is only us enlightened bodies that research and are able to judge when to buy...........!!

I've had the engine light and tortoise appear, and stay around, for a couple of days recently. Booked in with dealer this Friday and (of course) the day after I'd booked it in they both disappeared. Some work dramas meant I'd no choice to drive the car reasonable distances and they have never reappeared, I just hope there's no damage building up in the meantime. Since parts appear to be on a lengthy back order it doesn't look likely I'll get it resolved any time soon, assuming it's the EGR valve and cooler at fault.

Looks like everyone with 2014 and early 2015 D4's will eventually be plagued by this problem.

Wonder if all will have the faulty parts routinely replaced [regardless] at the first service, or earlier.

Mine's back into the dealer today for it's first annual service tomorrow. And because of the tortoise. So let's see what they do next. It's weird because they said they replaced the EGR valve ten days ago when they had the car for two days (although quite how they managed to source the part so quickly is a mystery).

Yes indeed a mystery given that they're on back order and I'm still waiting a call from mine to say it's arrived (ordered on 29.01.2015).

Was told by my dealer that Volvo will only replace both parts now (EGR and cooler) at the same time and that this has been the preferred method to sort out the issue from mid January.

Would't imagine any dealer has these spare parts kicking around given they're in short supply. Guess they can only be ordered when a fault is reported for a specific car in mind (by VIN number) otherwise some dealers might be ordering by the bucket load and further exacerbating the supply problems.........and as it's a recall-related issue at Volvo's expense, I imagine they are monitoring it car by car.

The main issue is that it isn't a 2 minute job to get to the EGR valve/cooler and if only a valve is ordered and when it is stripped it also requires a cooler then the customer is left without a car unless it is just put back together and that is just a waste of time.

It is easier to order both parts after and rebook the customer when the parts arrive, if both parts are not required then it can be kept for the next customer, if they are then the job can be done in the day and the car returned to the customer.

Is this general recall ?
I have not heard anything from my dealer.

It's not but the dealers are so aware and ready to accept it when you mention the fault that it has become as close to a recall without being one. I presume as there is no danger to anyone they may leave it as it is and deal with the fix in a more orderly flow than if everyone came at once.
