Default Clunk when selecting gear

Guys got my wishbones done few weeks ago had to pay £100 to get them fitted in the end .mech said they had trouble putting them on .anyway new problem when starting of from neutral I dip clutch then move gear stick towards 1st I get a dull clunk not in first yet but just in that direction ? Brought back to mech today he said they loosened drive shaft bolt at hub to get wishbone in he checked it and was slightly requiring torque so did so .clunk still there anyone any ideas ? Also can feel every bump on normal roads juddering along at low speeds over speed bumps soft and no probs but normal driving below 30 bumping and juddering ride ? Thinkni need track rods done would this be it ? Phil

Have you had new wishbones fitted, or just rebushed? What sort of bushes are in the wishbones, rubber or poly?

Your old wishbone may actually have ridden better as the bushes allowed more movement than the new ones thus insulating the bumps a bit.

Possibly your new tight arms are showing something else up to be worn?

So you say you hear a clunk 'whist' in the action of engaging first gear, hmmm, could that be a duff gear selector cable bush, perhaps..

Worn track-rod ends would certainly give a jittery feel, and as i said you may not have felt the full brunt of it with soft old bushes...

I'm not sure if the cable bushes are available seperately, most likely not knowing Volvo. Doddle to change from what i can deduce.

There must be some out there somewhere, but you really need to get an assistant to help you diagnose it.
Have him/her do the exact motion where you say you experience the noise whilst you get your eyes and ears in the engine bay/gearbox area to see for sure.
The cables are quite visible on the top of the box.

ps. I would not be surprised if your mech pulled the shaft out too far and dislocated the balls, but you don't need to remove the shafts to change a bone, but he may have and thats why he charged heavy to make up for his inexperience, things i once did myself, the errors that is, not the over-charging. lol

Its a 40 minute job for both on a hoist, double on your back if your stiff!

God hope not thought he would have known to disengage track rod from hub but obviously not used to volvos thought £50 a side was OK for fitting you rekon that bit pricy ? If he's has pulled drive shaft out would that be new one required?

You only have verify with Cheshired on the time needed, but sorry £100 is about £40 too much imho, being generous.

If your shaft is working its fine, as you say he ought to have known the quicker route.
