Stereo/Phone/SatNav : - S40 swaping single cd for 6 cd changer

Hi.
I recently bought a 6 CD changer for the car(6CDIAM). I want to swap it from the single cd player but when I plug the new radio in it doesn't work. The car seems not to see it at all. It turns on for few seconds than shuts down. When I plugged the old one back in it worked straight away. My question is what do I have to do to make it work? Does it need programming to a car? Does it need the dislay from the old car as well(like Vauxhall's where radio works with the display) ? It didn't ask for a code so I assume it doesn't need a code. Can anyone help me out.

I'm sure the units are coded to the car or sort of 'paired with' the car so other units won't work (as you have found).

I believe it can be made to work but requires the Volvo dealer and I think it's very expensive from memory, I'm sure member "iainmd" knows a bit about this.
