Obviously a way to go yet but i'm getting there! If i'd won the lottery the other day i also would have sent them away!

Yours are certainly looking good and fairly similar to what i'm aiming for except the front will be mirror finish with gunmetal behind and in the "square holes".

Looking forward to the fitted pics on yours!

Certainly is Mark! I've discovered that on the older alloys (like my Omegas) they were rough cast. A brief clean up then an etch primer followed by a high build/filler primer that was flatted, another coat of primer, 3 of top coat (silver) and 2 of lacquer is what gave them their finish.
When i first started getting a decent shine, i couldn't understand the "mottled effect" i was seeing. Did some research and discovered they were most likely rough cast - on that basis i did some more aggressive sanding and found smooth alloy which then polished up.

A very long job but oh so satisfying when it starts to shine!

[QUOTE=griston64;2504578]Got my Auriga alloys back today after a refurb

I've got those wheels on my '97! R (radius?) 16.
Wondering if these needed a different PSI to my previous cars R15 wheels, I went wandering round the web.
Kwik fit (of all places ) said:
The following tyre pressures have been found for your 1997 VOLVO 940 CLASSIC LPT, .

Tyre Size Position Pressure (PSI) Pressure (BAR) Load Index
195/65V15 Front Tyre 29 2.0 88
185/65H15 Front Tyre 33 2.3 89
205/55V16 Front Tyre 37 2.6 89
195/65V15 Rear Tyre 29 2.00 88
185/65H15 Rear Tyre 30 2.07 89
205/55V16 Rear Tyre 37 2.55 89
(load index should be 94?)

I was thinking 33/30 felt a bit soft, and there was wear was on the outer front edges too. Maybe our friend called 'tracking', and his relatives!
But I've tried 37/37 - bit too firm, plus a bit of 'crabbing' on some bends.
I think I'll split the difference...

And lovely, commendable project BTW (Trigger). I wish I had the time and energy for my 'dog mobile' too! Still slowly working my way through the FAQ recommended list...

You've got Radial tyres on your car, not "radius" tyres! The "R" in the tyre designation stands for "Radial", for example 205/55R16V94 is a 205mm wide tyre with an aspect ratio of 55, radial, 16" wheel fitment, safe to 149mph "V" speed rating and a 94 load rating.

Instead of wandering round the wibbly-wobbly-web, you should have wandered to your drivers door and opened it and found the tyre pressure label telling you it's 28psi all round if it's a saloon, 28 front and 30 rear if it's an estate and will give the tyre sizes this applies to which wil almost certainly include the 205/55/16 or similar. Also have a look at Pg68 of this pdf :

http://www.myvolvolibrary.info/Tech_...DataPocket.pdf

Running your tyres on 37 psi all round is likely to result in extremely light steering, lack of grip in general, possible aquaplaning in the wet, the back end hanging out unexpectedly round rounabouts and/or turns and above all, a very harsh ride! Also if you are involved in an accident and can give no reason for running the tyres at that dangerously high pressure (eg fully loaded with 4 adults and luggage) at the time, you may find your insurance is void because you are not maintaining the car correctly. If you are fully loaded with 4 adults and a load of luggage, then it will need the extra pressure, if not it will compromise the steering, handling, ride, braking and safety of the car.
