Rear view mirror compass
Is it feasible to retro fit the rear mirror compass to my wife’s 2010 XC70 please?

ie: it is a very intelligent unit, and must be programmed to the car, thus only new units can be fitted and must be done and programmed by a dealer.

Ok. Thanks for the detailed reply. I guess it won’t be happening. It looks a nice feature and I thought it would come in handy but it’s not worth the effort time and expense on a nine year old car with 180,000 miles on the clock.

They are carefully selected for proper compatibility with all of the vehicles functions, including being able to, in some cases, hunt down and eradicate bugs inside other modules (like Sensus...)....

Thank you very much for that info.Swiss, Very interesting. By the way,do you think we will still be allowed to converse as we presently do on The Forum post Brexit? Or will the powers that be in Brussels say it is verboten?
Regards.Keith.

The compass feature was I thought very helpful. I drove lorries for many years and am used to using the sun for basic direction. Her car has sat nag and she has google maps on her phone etc. I just thought it would have been a nice feature to have on the mirror. Very clever idea.
Could fit a physical compass I suppose but the interior is standard and nice still. I tend to like the factory options over all others. Ironically the sat nag on her car is so awful to access that a compass would probably have been a better option at the build stage. |

Piggy Back question;
Can the compass be switched off - i find it an annoying distraction when I'm driving at night? I like the dash illumination set to minimum and no other distracting lights at night. I am always shocked at how many night drivers you see with a mobile phone or sat nav stuck on the windscreen on a bright "daytime" setting I even find someone sitting in the rear seat with a mobile screen on bright. Hi-jack over.

I have it on mine and like you found it distracting at first, got used to it now and can just ignore it untill I need it. A useful feature if following a map rather than sat nav. Paul. |

Reading the last post is it possible my wife’s car is fitted with a compass that is turned off? I guess a paper clip in a hole in the mirror base would tell me later?
Assuming once turned off it remains off? Does not come back on every time you,turn the ignition on? |
