Smile Music from a USB drive

Hi there,

Question about music from a USB drive. If I use a USB 'flash drive' as the source can the system read folders as well as track names? Just by way of a test I've created 4 folders on a USB drive and and given them names of four albums, I've then put the tracks for each album in their repsective folders, the car seems to just read all the tracks in sequence as though the folders weren't there.

In the manual it talks about the system supporting USB media to a maximum of 500 folders and 64,000 files which sort of suggests that it can see the folders (otherwise why mention it?).

Anyone know about this please?

Try using the enter and exit buttons on the steering wheel. Mine has the bluetooth steering wheel and they seem to allow folder searches. It also seems to allow the same if my Apple Nano (3rd gen) is connected. Haven't got my head around of of the functions yet but hope to at weekend.

Got it sorted.

Folders and tracks can be navigated from the menu, enter and navigation keys on the radio, works a treat. Great to be able to flash drive full of music left plugged so its always there as an option. With a 4GB drive for £9 its a very inexpensive way of keeping a ton of music in the car, no need for a pile of CD's anymore.

But i as looking for something more "automated", where i can just click and the extension will "update" the live server with the information from draft.

Is there anything like that, without having to open phpmyadmin?

thanks

Could not get mine to work was stuck on one folder or random. The dealer suggested the USB did not like all mp4 player formats so I borrowed my boys Ipod and all was good. Funny thing is now it will run my mp4 player and search the folders????

Mine is also stuck in one folder or random. Its very annoying having to try and memorise where each folder starts and ends. I have a mixture of MP3 and MP4 tracks on a 8GB stick.

I bought a Sandisk Cruzer 16gb (£16 delivered on play.com) and put about 10gb of music files on it in preparation for my new V70 arriving. Unfortunately when plugged in I just got an "unable to read USB" message. I plugged in my 16gb Sony mp3 player and no problem at all. Fully searchable by folders, all tracks available and as they are the same files as on the stick I couldn't work out why. I wondered if maybe it was something to do with the way the Sandisk is formated as it comes enabled for U3 (not even sure what that is though!!) I formatted the stick then copied the music back onto it and now it works fine so it must have been something in the way it was formatted from new. Really pleased with the sound system and the USB interface works a treat!

have you looked in the menu on the centre stack? There are options under USB when you press menu with USB Plugged in ..
