The fact the previous owner hadn't looked after it and I'm now left picking up the pieces still a work in progress

It could an urban myth, or even a figment of my imagination, but... I'm sure many years ago I remember reading about a North American Volvo owner who embarked on an 8 hour drive unaware that the timer/thermostat for his heated seats had failed and had stuck on. By the time he reached his destination his legs had been slow-cooked and had to be amputated. Anyway - makes me feel better about not having heated seats...

Shape of the boot and the big lip of the rear bumper. Not handy on an estate car

Yes, it's been done before. For me the main things are:

- useless headlights
- delaminating windscreen
- poor demist
- failing PITA marker lights (current strategy is to let them all fail and pretend that they were never meant to light up)
- failing interior bulbs ditto
- boot edge is rubbish for sitting and eating sandwiches - enough to drive you to buy another Volvo entirely
- come to think of it, the car is not really big enough at all
- stupid alarm fault that I've never solved

New ones this year:
- access to timing belt side of engine is infuriating
- and now both keys are starting to crumble...

...But I'm sentimentally attached...

Front wheel drive - left front wheel spins too easily sometimes when starting off on wet roads!
No sunroof - rather have sunroof than AC
Horn push too stiff - the moment has passed by the time it sounds & end up looking a bit stupid.
Not big enough storage compartments - glove box, etc

The phase 2 drivers seat doesn't quite go back far enough for me and I like to practically sit in the back seat when driving There's possibly a way to adjust the limit but I haven't checked. As it happens I don't have that problem in the phase 1 S/V40 and the 850 has more than adequate leg room

Umm! New front tyres (Conti's or Dunlop"s) and smaller boots?
AC AND a sunroof would be nice!
Thump the horn like a Yankee driver?
The storage is fairly good for the size of the car, just the drink holders are missing.

@Baffler:
It's not designed for basketball players!
