S40 (New) General : S40 boot lock problems

Connection inside the boot is the power supply,another goes to the boot microswitch (Inc Reg lights) and the other to the lock.
You need all 3 connected.

Thanks for the heads-up on this guys. The boot lock wasn't always engaging, and then I noticed there was a clicking noise coming from the lock when I lifted and closed the boot. I thought I'd damaged the lock mechanism by slamming the boot down with too much force (I have a habit of closing the boot using the grab handle and sometimes bringing the boot lid down too sharply). Sure enough the wires were all frayed, and when I pulled the rubber cover back to inspect, one snapped (I managed to do an emergency repair with some spare wire and have covered all exposed wire with insulating tape). My guess is that two wires were shorting and so sometimes the lock wasn't in the right position to engage when the boot lid was closed. The clicking noise (no doubt from the lock motor) has now also disappeared. I'm glad I became aware of this problem and found the damage before being faced with a boot that wouldn't open, so thanks to all on this forum who have posted. I must admit, it's a bit of a naff design, imo, and I can't help thinking that a bit more slack in the wiring loom might reduce the chance of this happening.

Now some of you guys might be able to help with an associated problem, because I received no replies on a thread I started. How on earth do you remove the boot inner grab handle from the lid? Because I initially suspected the lock mechanism I removed all fittings to take off the boot lid trim but couldn't get the grab handle out. Eventually I managed to pull the trim off from around the handle with only minor damage, but the handle has been damaged trying to remove it with trim tools. The Haynes Manual says to carefully pull from the panel. Yeah, right! Even with the felt trim off I can't budge it. It looks like they might have redesigned it on the facelift model looking at the photo in the Haynes Manual. Any ideas?
