RE: Tyres for T5R
Watch out that the US tyres are the same as UK spec - they may not be, which would invalidate your MOT and insurance if people get picky.

RE: Tyres for T5R
Rich,
How much are you being quoted? I paid £95 all in for each of my Pirelli PZeros (205 45 17) from ProTyre in Bristol with no haggling. :-) I was quoted £148 each from more local tyre suppliers. |

Andy, inlcuding taxes and shipping etc these work out at 200 quid exactly for a pair (this excludes fitting of course). The cheapest I can find for the same tyre in Leicester is 115 quid. Looks like I am in for a trip down to protyre in Bristol in the near future.
Thanks for the tip. Rich. |

Has anyone any theories as to why 215/40/17's are still NOT being eaten away by the bodywork on only my car after 8k of vicious mileage..... do I have a substandard car......or am I just stupidly lucky? :)

RE: Tyres for T5R
So further to the long saga, and having spoken to a couple of people who really know what they're talking about....
I'm now running 205/40/17 tyres.... It seems that the key is not going wider, but you can go down a profile, and the 3% rolling radius lost just gives you a touch more acceleration off the line. Realistically it slows the car a bit at the top end, but as the top end is more than twice the legal speed limit I'm not that concerned.... ;) It seems like a good trade off, and as 205/40/17 is a REALLY common size, there are lots of good makes to choose from. I have found the brand new Avon ZZ3 is kewl, but am excited as I will be able to put bridgestone pole positions on in that size next time round when cash allows.... My insurers were quite happy with this - and made no charge, on an existing modified car policy. Obviously this is my own opinion and experience only, and not an approach endorsed by any volvo or owners club people. Hope that might be of use to put the record straight on what can and cant be done. Regards, Phil :-)
