This is a car forum.

Surely if you can’t rant about your car, then there is no hope.

I can’t see how you can compare heating and eating to some one and their views on their new car.

I sympathise with the op. You work hard to buy the car you want only to be disappointed by the niggles, after all, it’s the niggles that can make or break your new car.

Steve.

Let’s be honest here.

All car gripes are 1st world problems. Doesn’t mean one doesn’t get pee’d off about them.

For many years I have been driving BMWs and decided to change to Volvo. I did a lot of research on line, and by test driving before ordering a XC60. During my research I was unable to find any information about the Google system on line or from the dealer. I assumed that two respected companies like Volvo and Google would result in a useable system - I was wrong.
The basics of the XC60 are great but the infortainment system is not fit for purpose in a top of the range car.
So yes Volvo are taking the proverbial.

With no disrespect re: this observation:

I always assumed the same in case of SONY Xperia flagship phones... Needless to say that although hardware is usually and truly above the par, software implementation is on a constant and inevitable decline.

And yet: my next phone will probably be an Xperia phone, again...

I had a 2020 transit sport custom.

The apple play system in that was superb. Absolutely seamless mirroring and integration.

Not so on the xc.

Same with my top of the range Sony TV. Excellent picture but the Google/Android software that runs it is awful. All kinds of problems when I first got it, many of which were eventually fixed with firmware updates.

However, the updates stopped after ~18 months and I now have a TV that randomly reboots once or twice a month. Neither Sony nor Google show any interest in fixing it.

This is typical of Google and does make me think twice about buying a Volvo that runs Android.

The choice of new cars could be quite limited in the not too distant future if we want to buy one without Android Automotive….several manufacturers are introducing the system this year or next year, including:-

Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi
Ford
Stellantis (formerly Peugeot/Citroen/Vauxhall/Fiat/Jeep)
Honda
Audi

It’s funny.

Temperature controls used to be a simple switch and a dial or slider. Now it needs a cpu, memory, screen, software, etc etc etc

I never needed to do an upgrade on my plastic switch or dial, and it never went “out of support”

Progress!

Ah yes, that is how it works these days. Consider this:

https://www.gsmarena.com/flagship_so...news-29427.php

Followed by this rather sad development:

https://piunikaweb.com/2019/12/19/so...ct-xz-premium/

But it wasn't Google's but rather SONY's decision to do that... Still rather itchy subject for me, I have to say.

So getting back to the subject here it's seems that it's VOLVO's abysmal decision and implementation.
And no price for guessing what is going to happen two years down the line...

Sorry not directly Volvo related (or will it due loss of control)
I bought one of the first Sony smart tv’s some years ago
It needed an additional costly dongle to operate
Within a couple of years it lost YouTube and then BBC IPlayer
No longer supported by Sony
The TV still works fine today without being (smart)
I have vowed ever since never to buy another Sony product
