I done a 400mile trip from Mcr to Cornwall which included a 3 day stay, on filling up for the return leg I calculated the MPG...46.5MPG XC70 euro 3 towing a trailer full of camping gear and baby items with the car fully loaded.
Happy with that considering it's done 198K! |

Nice one Hicky! But I hope you don't get hit by yet another barrowful of the same points and opinions. From a simple and straightforward "look what I / my car managed to achieve", this thread has just dragged on and on, and bogged down
And yet, there's a couple of bottom lines that don't seem to have got much attention. One is the fundamental difference between what fuel consumption a diesel and a petrol engine can achieve over the same distance (surely everyone knows that? maybe not all have experienced it). I'm not sure there's too much point in comparing the two. The other is that not all the spreadsheets in the world, nor the little jobs that supposedly improve fuel consumption, will count for much if the nut behind the wheel isn't working properly. It's so much about how you drive. But again, not much point in discussing that By the way, I believe diesels especially excel when run at a constant rpm. That's not an opinion, it's something I read in a technical article years ago.

somewhat unnecessarily contentious, is this because I said I didn't believe your claim of 85mpg
if one end of this 'pointless' spreadsheet says 17.5mpg and the other says 23mpg, I would say there's probably quite a few people who would like to know the details of how we got from point A to point B, that being literally the whole point of this thread |

Well now, I didn't call it a pointless spreadsheet. But you did Don't be so sensitive man. You're entitled to your opinions, and other people are entitled to say they get a bit bored hearing them again and again. Is that contentious? By the way, the opener to this thread said "...i had Miss Daisy in mind for the purpose of seeing what MPG i could achieve...". That was all, just a bit of light-hearted real-world stuff, it didn't call for opinions or obsessiveness. |

well to be fair no-one's forcing anyone to read anything if they're getting bored of the finer details, I know it can be hard to focus for long periods of time sometimes
I'm sure that technical article on diseasal efficiency was a riveting read though lol |

I'm surprised to hear that you find it hard to focus for long periods of time, what with your spreadsheets 'n all. Hmm, you'd best check them again. After all, statistics and lies...
Do try to get out sometimes. |
