That's interesting and informative. I will look there next time I suspect a regen is in progress. Mines an XC60,although would imagine it is the same.

Sadly in my case, for the last 2 months this comes up every other day, along with an associated significant drop in economy; I only ever use Shell diesel in my S80 D3 and drive about 750 miles a work for my daily commute, meaning that I fill up pretty much once every week so it would appear to be happening 2-3 times as frequently as it ought to. Strange that it used to be once a week to once a fortnight prior to the summer though...

In addition, since my latest service a couple of weeks ago, I now get the 'electrical system' preventing stop-start every single day - getting really exasperated with the stop-start system now. MRG tell me that if the battery goes below a certain level (73% full I think they said) then this will cause this message - it all seems a bit strange to me that over 35K miles I saw this message twice, then I've seen it every day since my last service less than 2K miles ago. I do wonder whether the latest software update has tweaked some settings, causing this error.
80% actualy , the system uses an AGM main battery and its getting weak , loosing it's capacity , get the garage to check the health and state of charge of the battery either with the cars in built tester ( if you have one ) or their official volvo tester . I've found these AGM batteries can fail prematurely.

I thought about this the other day and I will admit it left me confused.

If diesel is added after the power stroke to bring the DPF temp up to 600 C, then why do the 2.0 and 1.6 PSA diesel engines need the eloys additive? Whats the difference?

Those engines have a cheaper type of particle filter which needs help from the EOLYS additive to reduce the regenerating temperature to about 450C to suit the cheaper particle filter which has to be changed at around 75000 miles . .

Does this include the new D3 engines? Volvo don't mention that in the sales brochures! Bugger, don't suppose they will be cheap either.

It does not include the D3 engine.

It is the 1.6 (D2) and the 2.0d (ford 4-cylinder) that use the eolys DPF.

I think the later D2's do not use the eolys dpf. Maybe someone like Clan with more knowledge will confirm.

The only diesel engines which used EOLYS with the particle filter which needs changing at 75000 miles were the 1.6D and 2.0D 4 cylinder engines, and not all had EOLYS and the particle filter by any means . All the rest have decent Particle filters which last the life of the car in general .

So are you saying the D2 does not have eolys as per the older 1.6d's?..????

As far as I am aware and as far as I have been informed Volvo changed the type of DPF from around 2011 onwards - so in essence the new D2 1.6D has the same type of DPF as say an XC60 D5 ie no eolys additive, so no need to replace at 75k miles if working ok.
