Fingers crossed it's sorted, can never be too sure with 30+ year old electronics after it has suffered damage like that.

Don't forget to check the earth point in the drivers footwell if you haven't already as that can cause a static needle at ~45mph if it's bad.

I think I've checked it before but there is no harm in checking again, you do mean the MEP behind the ECU don't you?

Thank you again for repairing the speedometer, hopefully that will be one less thing to worry about.

My mate came over and stonechipped the trays, radiator support, chassis legs, front end and underneath the trays/rad support. Only a couple of photos as it started pouring down so we had to close the bonnet to stop it from getting wet.

That's the one Luke, i wouldn't be averse to double checking it to make sure all connections are clean, bright and tight - a gentle squeeze with a pair of pliers can tighten the push on connectors enough to vastly improve the connection.

I fitted a new lambda sensor, it no longer has the lambda light on and doesn't belch black smoke out of the exhaust too!

While fitting it water kept dripping on me from the stoncehip, I thought it was a bit odd so I poked it and my finger went through the chassis, a massive rot hole was completely hidden by the stonechip and once I had poked it plenty of water fell on me then haha.

It has now been painted, it doesn't look too big but that patch is about 5 inches across. We went over the rest of the chassis poking it afterwards to see if there were anymore invisible rot holes but luckily we found nothing.

The whole underside was going to be stonechipped this evening but it is pouring down with rain so that has been put off for a couple of weeks.

50 shades is leaving Monday all being well, just got to fit the manual boost controller this weekend and dial it in to 10psi.

So to recap this was a 940 that had lots of issues, was completely rotten and only worthy of scrap that has been reborn using a B230FK and M90 gearbox removed from a 1995 Volvo 940 I found in a scrapyard in Cheltenham. I spent all day lying down in broken glass to remove the engine and gearbox in the scrapyard, I had no idea what I was going to do with them but I knew I couldn't bear the thought of them going to be crushed. It has turned out to be a silky smooth gearbox and a very smooth running engine with no apparent issues.

The original M47 gearbox has gone to save a 740 with a knackered gearbox and the B200F has been rebuilt and fitted to a boat. So that's two cars and a boat that have been put back on the road/water because of this job.

I can't say it wasn't testing my patience at several points and was a difficult job to do on a gravel driveway but it is done now and the customer is over the moon with it!

It has fought me on many occasions but with the electrical help of Dave and some amazing welding from my dad I have been able to save this 940

Loved reading this thread Luke. You have saved the car from the crusher and saved the engine/gearbox which now live on in other vehicles. A very motivating post.

Any other projects?

Have a well deserved rest!

James
