Hi Stuart
Just a visual check on the fuse. I will change it out and try again.
I've never used the CD player but when I selected it on the head unit it said CD error.
I think its most likely been like this since I've had the car (July last year).
Another job is to check the changer in the boot and see whats going on with that.

Do you not have a CD slot up the front?

a lot of people are pulling out the connection for CD changer and putting in a bluetooth dongle, play things off your phone instead

CD's are old hat anyway no point repairing it really, just would be interesting to know if maybe the sound problem is limited to radio only

Probably nothing to do with the sound problem, but you usually get that message if there's a CD jammed in the mechanism - oddly mine spat out a CD when the battery was reconnected after a few minutes a few days after I bought the car - didn't even know there was a CD in it as I'd only used the radio up to that point!

If yours has a cassette slot try a tape and see if gives sound - try accessing the early HU-850s hidden menu - posts 8 & 9 here are very useful.

I would try another battery dis/reconnect. Leave it disconnected for 15 mins.

Another very basic point - you are pressing the volume control to turn the unit on...

A quick update. I disconnected the battery again and left it for 20 mins. Reconnected and still the same. No sound what so ever. I also changed the fuses for the audio and amp and nothing.
Now at a loss what to do. Maybe remove the head unit and see if there's anything obvious???

Try turning the volume knob, and check the plug connectors to the amp under the front seat. Check too you have not disturbed the connections to the aerial amp under the boot floor. or dislodged the aerial connectors on the window.

Hi ASt85. Thanks for your comments. I’ve checked the amp under the drivers seat and everything is fine. Nothing loose. Where would I find the connection to the aerial amp and connectors which you mention? Are they in the boot on the passenger side where there are loads of fuses etc?

I think its the other end of the bumper. take out that corner piece of trim and look down into the hole .. unless im wrong in which case totally ignore me lol

the rear left window has that brown loop of stuff that looks like heated window strips but is actually the aerial. connectors are like sort of press-studs onto the glass (or am i thinking of the alarm glass break sensor). I wouldnt try and disconnect them because it might be brittle but certainly give them a press / wiggle to check good connection

There are 2 aerials, one is on the passenger side rearmost window in the boot area, the other in in the back bumper, amplifier unit is on the driver side about a foot from the side (if that makes sense); however....
You’ll still get sound if these are bust, it will just be white noise rather than a station. If the radio is still scanning an locking on a station the amps and aerials are fine.
Have you had the radio unit out? It would make sense that the amplifier feed has disconnected if the Head unit has been out.

Hi reggit. Thanks for your comment. No the unit hasn’t been out. The head unit scans and finds the stations ok it just doesn’t make any sound. All started after disconnecting the battery for a while and then no sound. Checked and changed fuses and amp connections but nothing.
