Got my axle stand at the ready. Will give an update when I get back to it. Will probably be next weekend now though, by the time I get a new bolt and work commitments etc.

Better to take your time and get it right, it's not a job to be rushed.
I wish I'd seen that guide when I did mine: it would have been most useful. I used a 100cm 3/4 inch breaker bar and a length of scaffold tube together with a 50cm extension and an axle stand. The scaffold tube gave me a bit more control when angle tightening the crank bolt. Martin. |

Well I can class it as success.
I tinkered on with it, on a night, last week, and tried a test fire yesterday. The green goddess started up almost instantly so I must be somewhere close with the injection pump timings. I managed to get the full additional 180 degrees on the crank pulley bolt using 3/4 breaker and long socket extension bar, supported by an axle stand. Just need to nip up the rocker cover bolts and put some covers back in place. Does anyone know the torque settings for these as I could not see them in any guides? Also a big thank you to all the forum members for helping with my queries. |

Well done and thanks for the update. It's always nice to hear how people get on.
With regard to the camshaft cover my Haynes manual for the Audi with the AEL engine, from which the D5252t is derived, givers a value of 10Nm which is what I think I used. Hope this is of some help. Martin |

Great stuff.. I'm really pleased to hear you've had success. Hopefully that old D5252T will be purring for a long while yet..
Dave..

Cheers guys. I actually found a pdf online, seems to be an official Volvo document. This gives a figure of 20Nm for the camshaft cover and 100Nm for the front camshaft pulley and 160 for the rear pulley.
I think the rear pulley is the injection pump side, which I thought was very tight. I guess this is because its face mated. |
