66 Launch date?

Does anyone have any info on the launch date of the Volvo 66?

I'm told mine, being registered on 14.11.75 is a very early one, but how do I find out just how early? What information can I get from the VIN number?

Just be interested to know if anyone can help.

The 66 replaced the 55 in 1972 but I am not sure when the 66 was first sold in the uk, will see if I can find out more, I have a 55 marathon coupe registered in Jan 1973 very late for a 55...

A driver's handbook I have is dated 9.75. A booklet of reports on the car from newspapers have them dated from 10th October '75 running into early '76.
Your car Graeme might even be one of the test cars, there wouldn't have been many around that early on. Don't know when the DAF version stopped production or what changes Volvo made to their version before announcing it. Did the last DAF versions have the chunky bumpers? My folder of DAF brochures is hiding somewhere but I'll keep looking.

Thanks all - I will try Volvo Heritage.

I've also now spotted that in 1975 there were two Volvo Price List's issued - one in March, only for the 200 range, and one with "Prices Effective from 15th September 1975, for 1976 Specification Cars" that includes the 66. (It was £1945 on the road btw!). So that does hint that mine was in the first couple of months of production at most.........

This could turn out to be interesting!

Mine is chassis No A56893, so certainly an early-ish one.
