Default V90 1997 fuel level light on

Just passed its MOT and Lisa my mechanic said it has no fuel, I went and put in £20 and the light is still on, put in another £20, light still on and guage needle not moving. I found the cover plate under the carpet for the tank but I ask you all if there is a known fault/problem.
Car just had new tyres,MOT and is up for sale at £1000, 171,620 miles. I will be listing on Gumtree/Facebook marketplace as I cannot list pictures on here.
I hope you have an idea on the fuel guage/sender?

Could be a gauge problem or a duff sender unit. Quite common on the 7/9xx models, not sure how much of that set up was used on yours though.

Mine does the same.

Even brimmed it reads nothing in tank with light on.

Once every 6 weeks it will jitter into life for a few moments, only to die again. The fuel light is always illuminated.

I've not tried to fix the problem, I just brim it at every fill and look for petrol at about 350mi (reset the clock every time I fill).

Having looked, there is a fix for the sender with nickel strips and the dash clocks get dirty and corroded on the backs. The link for the reapair is HERE and the bit you are looking for is 2/3rds of the way down the page, titled "Fuel Gauge Failure: Fuel Level Sending Unit Repair".

It shouldn't reduce the value of the car that much but digging about trying to fix it could cost a lot of time and money if you don't do it yourself.

Cheers,

Fred.
