Default T5 107k - Turbo advice recomendations breathers Oil

Hi All,

Thanks for reading my post. I have a C70 T5 99plate currently at 107k. Ive had the car two years from 70k and have only really had to replace etm, plugs and coil packs. I have changed the oil regularly and always kept it topped up. I had a t4 prior to this and that used oil. Since i have had the T5 it has used oil which i just put down to its a turbo they all do. I had my brother try to keep up with me in his bmw about 6 months ago and he said there was no smoke so that re-assured me. But recently i have noticed i am putting more and more oil in her i would say about 1/4 to a 1/2 of a litre every 300 miles. My brother followed me and confirmed he can now see smoke when i push it (5,000 rpm) generally i change at 4,000. I have also noticed a kind of jolt when i go from driving casually to 1/4 throttle to 3/4 is this a sign the turbo is on the way out ?
What is the average life of a turbo ? Has anyone purchased a new one ? how much are they and also has anyone had any experience with sending them away or getting them exchanged ? Prices and companies yes no's ?
I have also read about needing to replace the breather pipes and flame trap which i am seeking someone to do for me, again any recommendations prices etc.
Anything anyone else can recommend i do.
Thanks in advance and can i say i do love my T5

No flame trap on a turbo. PCV may be clogged though...

Any smoke from dipstick? ?

No Dip stick smoke. Would having a clogged PCV make the car use Oil ?

It can make oil blow out fron oil cap or dipstick tube or the pipe at the top of rocker cover may blow off.

If left unfixed it will blow oil seals, which would be nasty.

Quite an easy job to do. I fretted about it for months and posted several threads on here about it, but when I did it I couldn't believe how easy it all was. Definitely worth looking at if you have any of the symptoms I mentioned.
