well i agree... but we're talking here about a Volvo. Unfortunately no customisation is possible.

And so easy for them to offer via a software update. But they seem to always offer nothing in terms of features like that. Look at the CarPlay integration - they could quickly make that full screen but can’t be bothered.

Totally agree with the CarPlay integration. Puts me off using it as only half the screen is used, and you lose the sensus phone and have to use the CarPlay phone option.

I’m not a software developer but can it also be that hard to make Google Maps (if I use that in CarPlay) the map I see in the instrument cluster because that is off putting. Using Google (as mapping is better) but seeing a different map in cluster.

Not sure it's a case of 'can't be bothered'. Whilst more configuration options are certainly possible with software updates, and personally I would like to see more options, there will a (not inconsiderable cost) involved. Software has to be designed, developed, tested and maintained.

Also I think it may be a case of fitting in with the Scandi minimalist look that Volvo have been pushing recently.

Only they surely lost the Scandi angle when they sold out to the Chinese.

One of the sales pitches I got from my dealer was based around the heritage and origins. I didn’t know it was made in China. Had I done then I wouldn’t have bought it as they are not known for their build quality on anything.

In fact the Chinese partnership allowed Volvo to develop out of the Ford imposed regime. I think your judgement of Chinese manufacturing is also a bit out of date. Most commentators on the industry will point to the fact that China is now one of the leading makers of high quality vehicles.

Volvo are now planning to buy out Geely share of the partnership as Chinese law no longer requires foreign companies to have a partnership with a Chinese partner.

No doubt there are still cheap copies etc in the market in some other manufacturing and supply areas but that is long gone in volume car production. They have some of the most modern and advanced facilities with very professional, highly qualified engineers.

They make vast amounts of stuff. But you can’t deny that Chinese is historically synonymous with poor/low quality. Whether true in all cases or not is irrelevant. The general belief that Chinese means low quality will put people off if they knew. Probably why Volvo still wave the heritage banner and keep very quiet that it’s Chinese made.
