Default S90 alloy wheel corrosion

My dad had a S90 D5, it came with the black and silver polished wheels, he's noticed over the last few weeks thats the polished bits on the spokes are starting to corrode/have a crazy paving effect.

The wheels are not kerbed and most of the corrosion is on the spokes. Has anyone experienced this?, will it be a warranty repair or will they claim stone chipping etc causing it?

Who knows what they will say. I haven't seen any corroded alloys so can't comment on that. He must, assuming the car is still in warranty. contact the dealer and ask for their prognosis on the problems and be prepared to 'fight a corner' if he doesn't get the desired answer first time round.

I‘ve had four new wheels under warranty due to the lacquer peeling off in chunks. The dealer didn’t put up a fight, just took pictures (sent to Volvo I presume) and then invited me back when they arrived.

The current method by which these wheels are finished may have improved,
but I have always seen these "clearcoated" wheels corrode.

Thanks for the heads up on that. Very similar problem on my alloys, will have a word with the dealer when possible to get there.

I had this on all four wheels when my car was 18 months old. Volvo UK reluctantly covered the cost of refurbishment. They also offered a small discount if I wanted to purchase new replacements from them.

My wife’s Vauxhall mokka has rust coming through all 4 wheels . The car was a year old on March 1st, car was in for its 1st service late February, nobody mentioned the wheels.
Phoned the dealer the other day to make an appointment for the service manager to have a look at them . Anticipating a fight I took pictures of the wheels.
Service manager came out , took photos of the wheels then said I’ll give you a call when the wheels are in . He did ask what the mileage is (4K) , as long as the car was under 60k everything thing would be ok .
I must admit , absolutely perfect service from Arnold Clark Vauxhall.

This is the major problem with most diamond cut alloys , when driving small stones hit the protective lacquer on the diamond cut, chip and then water gets under the lacquer giving the results you see. All manufactures know this and will replace/ replenish at their cost.

The only manufacturer get out is if you have kerbed the wheel they will then refuse to replace/ replenish that wheel at their cost. Even the most stringent lease return examination will accept stone chip damage as wear and tear( unlike kerbed wheels)

Hope the above helps
