2006 S40 servicing & maintenance
Hello all !!!! Am new to this forum.
My wife bought a 55 plate 1.6 diesel S40 during 2008, with 2 years dealer's warranty. As it is approaching the end of the warranty period, it appears that the dealer warranty will not be extended. The vehicle has had dealer's FSH since new, and is riding on 56k miles at moment. I am a keen DIY mechanic. I maintain & repair my own car, a 1997 Land Rover Discovery. So would like to think that I am more than capable to handle the S40. Questions: - Should I be servicing and maintain the S40 from now on. Not particularly bothered with dealer's FSH anymore, as dealer's servicing prices are horrendous. - How do I clear the 'vehicle is due for servicing' message shown on dash board after servicing (if I service it myself) - As the vehicle is a 1.6 diesel, it is not covered by the Haynes Manual (4731). Where could I get a manual etc that covers said 1.6 diesel Thanks guys for any info provided. Cheers!! |

Hi and welcome.
I too had a landrover but a series IIa, which I had much fun with. You can buy a service reset tool like this one on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Service-Light-...#ht_1514wt_930 I did notice Haynes dont do a manual for 1.6. There are workshop manuals on Ebay if that helps or go for a Haynes diesel manual as most items are covered except cc of engine. I guess the only thing you wont be able to do, unless you have the software is 'tune it' and check for errors via a plug in laptop. This seems to be the norm nowadays, simply plug your car into a pc and away you go. rgds J Last edited by Jonnieb2009; Aug 1st, 2010 at 19:05. |

Do a search on here and it you will find the routine for resetting the service message, it's pretty straight forward.

Don't pay someone on ebay to reset the service interval reminder, you can do it yourself.
Here are the instructions: 1. Turn ignition switch to position I. 2. Press and hold "tripometer reset button". 3. Turn ignition to position II. 4. Continue holding day counter for about 10 seconds. 5. After Service Reminder Light flashes, release tripometer button. 6. Should hear "beep-beep" to confirm command accepted Works for me. 1.6 diesel is a Peugeot/Citroen HDi engine and the same unit is also found in the Ford Focus/Fiesta, Mazda 3, etc if that helps regarding the Haynes manual.
