After the underside revealed nothing I would've been suspecting the boot rubbers weren't adjusted enough and the actual boot was jumping about, could also be in the electric struts as well.

Digging Up this thread again- still have this rumbling/knocking.

It is only present when the car is driven warm.

My tech has one mentioned to me that this is typical of the D3 engines - but I would really like to know where the sound is coming from. When searching for D3s on youtube I can actually hear it in others as well.

If you listen at 3:24 in this video you will clearly hear the rumble/vibration I am talking about. Please note that you must use headphones since it is a very low frequency that phone/tablet speakers can't reproduce.

Just after he switches on the ignition in this video you can hear the vibrating rumble as it comes and then disappears. I'm not talking about the normal "engine hum" - there is another very low pitched rattle which is present for like two seconds.

What the hell is that sound? It is driving me crazy... It does not have to do with the suspension, and we have changed just about all the engine mounts...

And it is mostly/only present when the car is warm

Thanks for doing all this chasing.

Mine has something similar (it’s a V60 Cross Country). Sounds like bad damping or a worn shock absorber.

I will go and annoy the dealer and see if they have anything to say.

Evening all, has there been any update on this? I’ve purchased a 2019 D4 V60 and it sounds like the rear suspension is knocking on both sides, but I’ve been underneath the car and the through the boot panels and everything is secure. Thanks

Looks like this thread has become two different noises.

One is an engine noise and the other is a suspension noise.

Hullan has posted a video where he is not moving (3:24 in video) and is chasing a noise from the diesel engine as it starts.

Others are describing a knock from the rear.

The only way they could be joined is by an exhaust movement as the engine vibrates or the suspension vibrates.

If you have a knocking noise check out this thread, especially post #18, I have read of a few examples of missing mounting bolts. Worth checking yours.
