Default C70 Steering Noise

Hi All

I've an issue with my C70 (2004). When turning at very slow speeds there's a knocking noise? Suspension, wish bones, balls joints even track rod ends have been changed and the knocking is still their!!!!
The noise doesn't happen at speed and the steering seems fine.

Help! anyone have any ideas?????

Hi Burnsie,

Do you mean when you are driving at low speed, and in a turn?
Is it more noticeable when you turn left, or turn right, or the same?
Does the noise correspond to speed of wheel rotation?
Does it sound like a "clacking" rather than a click or a thump?

It might be a CV joint, usually the outer.

Steve

Thanks for your reply, yes normally at slow speeds, more when turning right but does happen when turning left sometimes, (hard turn) makes a loud(ish) clunk noise!

did think of the CV Joints ! that makes more sense than it being the rack!!

Yes, typical worn CV joint symptoms.

Just spoke to the garage (Steve @ Local Motor Services) who is of the same agreement. He is ordering a couple of CV Joints to replace such.

So far the linkages, track rod ends, ball joints, front and rear shocks and wish bones have been changed.

This started as a fun car for the summer, by the time its finished it'll be like a new car

All for the love of Volvo !

...don't forget the wheel bearings, although this is usually more of a rumble.
