Default V70 Petrol gauge inacuracy

Started to notice that the fuel gauge on the R seems to have a mind of it's own, is there any known problems with either the fuel gauge or the sender units on 98 V70's?. My old 850's fuel gauge and trip computer where really reliable however the V70's ones are ridiculous, I parked the car for 5 mins this morning while runing some errands, when I came back the fuel warning light was on, the gauge had dropped into the red and the miles to empty was saying 15. I drove to another place I had to call into about a mile up the road and left the car for about the same length of time, when I came back out the warning light was off the tank gauge was showing half way between a quarter and empty and the miles to empty had jumped back upto 25.

Parked level each time? or on an incline each time? or one then the other?

No, parked level every time...Apparently it's the sender units that fail, dry joints or worn out circuit board.

2 miles from the filling station tonight my miles to empty dropped from 15 to ----. Thought I'd be walking but it made it. 70 litres went into what I've always thought was a 65 litre tank in my AWD.

I find my gauge very accurate on my 99 V70 so I would say a possible fault with the sender unit or bad connection at a terminal in a plug.

Possibly faulty wiring as you need very low voltage through the sender unit check the multi plug that plugs to the sender in the boot and see what power your getting and if its solid of fluctuating.
