Default EGR fault code. Turbo overboost/ stuck wastegate?

Hi,

I have a 2016 V60 D4 190 bhp. It's now done 95k miles.
I've had it around 3 years and have had issues with the EGR in the past.

Approx. 1.5 years ago I had the EGR replaced with a reconditioned unit by an indie garage. A few months later the EML came on again intermittent at first, then on continuous.. I have since heard that just cleaning the EGR with solvent can damage coatings and they don't last long.

I recently took it to another garage (not a Volvo specialist) for diagnostic and they didn't mention the EGR but phoned me to ask, "has it been remapped, it seems to be overboosting?". Which it hasn't to my knowledge. They did some more tests then when I collected it they said that it seems to be overboosting due to a stuck wastegate.

They say they will have to remove the turbo and send it off to be cleaned/ reconditioned, then refit it, which will take several days. They could not give me an estimate of cost "due to the multitude of different turbo models".

I've booked it in, but in the meantime I borrowed a cheap code reader off my BIL and that gave one fault code of P04D9, which seems to be EGR valve? No mention of turbo wastegate.

Could an apparent stuck wastegate be causing the EGR fault code, or should that have it's own fault code? Does this sound right or should I be wary of this? Thinking about it again, the fault code could be from the EGR and the overboost maybe hadn't manifested itself again at the time I tested it. But I drove it "normally" for a week or two before doing the OBD myself, so it should have surely happened again?

Any thoughts/ advice much appreciated!

Cheers,

Rich54129.
