Default 320mm brake wheel size?

I'm really confuzzled. I'm thinking of doing a focus ST brake swap on my c30, now i know all the componants will fit, but i'm courious about the wheels, as internet is giving very conflicting information, basiclaly i want to know if 17 inch wheels will fit over the 320mm dics's calipers. These were fitted to the s40 and v50 AWD T5 variants, now if you check an US site it says the 17inch wheels will fit, but on a few Euro ones they say you need 18 inch ones. I know the The focus ST's have 18 inch wheels standard, and funnily no one in the ford forums knows if 17s fit as they go up wheel sizes now down and assume ford have fitted the minimum size required.

does any one have access to some specs that can confirm what wheels are required.

thanks
Ross

My D5 has 18in wheels and 320mm discs & to be honest just looking at the front brakes I would say there is room to go down to 17 inch wheels.

I have just checked the sales bumf I have that states that D5 & T5 have 320mm discs upfront regardless of which spec of trim the car is, so I can gather that most D5 & T5 will be fitted with 17in wheels as only the R-Design SE Sport & it’s predecessor the SE Sport came with 18in wheels standard.

Hope this helps.

I'm assuming that my 2.0d Se Sport doesn't have 320mm discs then? Thats the info on the ST brake conversion as i have 18 inch wheels?

humm, perhaps i'll see if i can chuck a 17 on an ST at work and see if its fits. i will get beiiger wheels at some point but i cant afford the ones i want right now, i do need bigger brakes as the ones fitted ate wholy inadequate., and tyres really need tyres lol.

basically because the c30 etc have the same front suspension as a mk2 focus anything that bolts onto them bolts onto ours, so i needs calipers, discs, pads, braided lines ( might as well it'd be daft not too) and the backing plates. I'm saying ST but volvo use the same caliper/parts on the variants with the 320mm discs, i work for a ford garage so i can get what i need pretty cheaply.

I'm assuming the V50 has the same suspension as the C30 unless they changed it somewhere ?

Hi

My S40 D5 R-Design has 17" Wheels with the 320mm discs and 17" wheels.

Ive had it 8 months now and the time has come to change the springs and get it remapped.

Just treated myself to a new jack and axle stands.

Eibach springs ordered and looking at which remap to go with.

thats good to know the r-design wheels clear, i was just looking to day as was concerned about the diameter and hadn't considered the face clearance. but theres a good fat finger (its a scientific measurment unit) clearnace between the standard caliper and wheel.

just waitng the braided lines, seems like forever since i sent them of for manufacture. waiting is killing me.

Eibach springs are good - don't get a BSR remap (mte or rica)

You thought about a strut brace (if it doesn't have one already) and the IPD Rear Roll bar? (it's awesome for the handling)

Monkey you truly are my saviour!!!

Mine already has a Strut brace taa. Where would i get the roll bar?

To be honest im struggling with the remap because the main companies like Rica don't do one so im beginning to think is there a reason for this?

Where I work there is a company across the road that do remaps and they say they can do mine but they have never actually done one? Why do the so called experts not want to touch it but yet the smaller companies say they can do it?

If you can shed any light on this i will put you on my Christmas card list!!!
