Default Sorry - but I'm a time waster.

Gentlemen I am genuinely sorry to have mucked you about but I've had a change of heart before I'd even arrived at an asking price.

I toured the main dealers over the last couple of days with the objective being to select a new vehicle to take under the NHS (im a London based Paramedic) salary sacrifice lease scheme. However, myself and my wife were left feeling very flat and unexcited at the rows and rows of new computers on wheels and cars on stilts SUV's. Together with the fact that to obtain a large car suitable of towing my newly aquired folding camper meant still forking out a good few hundred quid a month albeit that includes servicing, insurance, tax, MOT etc.

Also I admit that I was/am reluctant to put this car to work towing my 900kg folding camper when it's never towed before. I became a bit worried that spare parts availability is and will continue to dry up for my model and what with me putting it to work a bit through the summer months id be better going new or modern. Perhaps worrying unnecessarily but I'm just being honest.

In conclusion we decided to say no to the new car scheme and keep 'Big Vic' as my young sons call my 745T. I would have missed the petrol headed hobby of polishing and maintaining him too! So I hope the images have been a pleasure to browse for this that have, and I apologise for being a time waster.

Regards.

Jon

You will have no problem towing 900kgs with the 740 turbo. I towed 1300kg plus family of four and all the gear with mine. You can never replace a car like that but getting spares for it will be easy, not that your likely to need any besides consumables. Just give it a service every 6k and it should last forever.

It also looks amazing. Minter.

Thanks 57RKL. I change the oil and filter every 2500 miles believe it or not, can't help it, it's an illness as is detailing it thoroughly once every week.

Did you use a B230ET towing or an alternative powered 740?

It was a manual b230et with 140k on the clock. Towed my van with ease , had to switch out of overdrive from time to time but your 900 kgs is going to be a very easy tow. I'm currently towing with a 940lpt which is more refined but less exciting.

That interesting. I collected the folding camper (900kg) from Essex and drove it to Liverpool ferry home to NI and once I had tuned in to my car and found its sweet spot it was fine although as you say I was conscious of straining the overdrive so fourth was selected on any longer gradient on the motorway. I am aware that the OD is the weakness on the M46 box so next spring when the camping season begins I will tow applying maximum mechanical sympathy I think!

Cheers

Jon
