Default xc70 high oil usage

I have tried to find out if this has been discussed before and i was hoping it had but I cant find anything.

My XC70 2006 185bhp is using oil. Too much. It isn't leaking onto the floor and it is not smoking. Where is it going? I have had a garage replace the turbo as they thought that might be the problem but it is still using oil.
The 'soot filter full' warning comes on if you accelerate more than normal but goes off after the ignition is turned off. The garage found the DPF was only 9% full and it wont regen on its own until it is 20% full (?) so they did a forced regen yesterday and today the soot filter warning was back.
I have spent alot on it with the new turbo and replaced a Bi Xenon headlight too and it is a great car and i don't want to have to scrap it but it is at that tricky stage of when do i stop chucking money at it!!!
EGR valves have also been mentioned as a potential problem (?)
Any advice gratefully received.
