Default Starting car in cold weather

Hi can anyone advice, I have a Volvo 460 cd 1995, and it takes a bit of starting these cold mornings. (A) would a blanket put over the engine at night help? (B) Is Holts cold start spray any good, and if so, it says spray into the air intake, where would that be? Or any other suggestions. many thanks.

You shouldn't really need cold start etc if the engine & battery are in good order.
I'm assuming this is a petrol engine ?
Maybe a good service, plugs, filters etc and make sure the battery is healthy and fully charged.

Cold start should not be used on regular basis either

As above. Get your battery checked and renew if needed

I have no experience of anything like cold start, but you'll find the end of the air intake pipe underneath the passenger side headlight - remove the upright plastic panel that is bolted to the headlight and clipped to the front member. Round tube with slightly bell-shaped opening to it.

BUT

As has been said, you really shouldn't be needing anything like cold start as these cars are designed to operate in a wide range of temperatures with the ECU adapting as necessary.

My first thought is as to whether your battery is good? Is it getting old, low on charge? As the weather gets colder it will be working that bit harder to start the car, so with winter approaching if it's getting weak now's a good time to change it.

If not the battery, then my guess would be that the ECU is not getting accurate information about the intake air temperature. Have you checked for error code on the black diagnostics box! IIRC 1-2-2 is the error code for that sensor but if any of the others are faulty that won't be helping.

Come back as required for more assistance!

Not too far away in Lincoln.....

Can we assume it's cranking over ok?
If it is a petrol engine I'd be checking condition of the brush inside the distributer cap, also I think it'll have an inductive pulse crank sensor which will benefit from being removed and cleaned...... and as above a good service.
