Problems with Android auto

Recently acquired a XC40. I have had Android auto connected and used Google Maps.
Now a few days later it doesn't work when I connect the same phone via a USB cable to the white circled USB socket in the car all that I get is Connected to Android auto on the Infotainment screen. Touching this on the screen I get on a fresh screen, Connected to Android auto = Select phone (with a greyed out hardly visible the name of my phone). When I touch this it reverts back to the first screen.

I have the boxed ticked in settings to connect Android auto when phone is connected with USB cable.

Am I overlooking some obvious setting ?. Help would be appreciated.
