thats good to know the r-design wheels clear, i was just looking to day as was concerned about the diameter and hadn't considered the face clearance. but theres a good fat finger (its a scientific measurment unit) clearnace between the standard caliper and wheel.

just waitng the braided lines, seems like forever since i sent them of for manufacture. waiting is killing me.

Ive had it 8 months now and the time has come to change the springs and get it remapped.

Just treated myself to a new jack and axle stands.

Eibach springs ordered and looking at which remap to go with.
Eibach springs are good - don't get a BSR remap (mte or rica)

You thought about a strut brace (if it doesn't have one already) and the IPD Rear Roll bar? (it's awesome for the handling)

Monkey you truly are my saviour!!!

Mine already has a Strut brace taa. Where would i get the roll bar?

To be honest im struggling with the remap because the main companies like Rica don't do one so im beginning to think is there a reason for this?

Where I work there is a company across the road that do remaps and they say they can do mine but they have never actually done one? Why do the so called experts not want to touch it but yet the smaller companies say they can do it?

If you can shed any light on this i will put you on my Christmas card list!!!

you can remap a D5, but they need to take the pcm out and chip directly onto the circuit board, RICA i believe do any volvo, but you just need to find an RICA agent.
http://www.rica-uk.com/viewcar.aspx?vehicle=176
Ive had mind done by angel tuning, not an rica agent but they have a very good rep and are mobile with franchises all over the uk. One of the main reason people go RICA is they seem to squeeze more out of the engines than other tuners, but they are also alot more expensive. for example, my engine is 136bhp standard, most can get it to about 166 without any problems, but RICA claim almost 180bhp, 177iirc. TBH i dont car what mine puts out, its the way it drives soo much better now is where it's at, all these figure boasting is just willie waving imo. what ever you do not get a tuning box, every one i know who's had one has liked it for a whiel but ultimatley regretted not just gettina remap in the first place.

the rear anti roll bar you can get form various places, don kal something sells them on here, made by IPD in america, they are pretty dear imo. You can however getthem elsewhere if you get one ment for a ford focus mk2, or mazda 3, like motorsportworld.co.uk sell whiteline flat out products, iirc the 24mm bar, is only £120, Ive got a 26mm adjustable bar (due more to availablity rather than preference) but you need some L shaped drop links, some s40/v50s have these already fitted, most have pin drop links, but you can get L shapped ones for £25 each from ford or £18 each from your local parts factor. its a very much diyjob, you dont even need to jack up your car to fit it. IMO a thicker ARB is a must if you are going to do any mod this is the one to do.
Only get a rear one, if you get a thicker front one it counteracts the rear one, and increases understeer and you need to get an even bigger rear one., the stiffer/thicker rear one only make the rear want to oversteer, which compensates the natural understeer, making the car more neutral.

Don't worry if the company hasn't done one.

As long as the 'MAP' itself is good - as all they're doing is installing 'software' on yours anyway.

IPD Rollbar is a good buy - Don (kalmar union - google it) or partsforvolvos.com do it too.

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/t...f=156&t=291330Good thread about D5 remapping!

Ignore the claims for chipping, they all seem pretty much of a muchness as far as I can tell - 5 or 10hp here or there isn't worth worrying about.

One reason to Go RICA is that you can get it custom remapped later on (i think) if you go for further mods.

Personally.... Get the suspension sorted first:

- IPD Rear Roll Bar
- Eibach Sports Springs
- Bilstein B8 shocks
- Rear Geometry arms
- Top quality tyres (not P6000's - conti sport contact or similar)
- Braided Steel Brake Lines

With that stuff above your car will handle like a fly covered in super-glue - Then get a remap when you get bored of the power

I have all of that apart from the B8 shocks (which are on order).

Excitement from power wears off... enjoyment of good handling lasts longer!

Also... A stainless exhaust will sound awesome if you like your 5cylinder thrum.

I know it's 15mm drop compared to the sports suspension - I think the sports suspension was a 15mm drop compared to standard.

So not 100% sure but you should be looking at a 30mm drop - the Eibach site might be a good place to double check.

Speedbumps certainly need to be treated with respect but it's not really caused me any issues being on the eibach springs.

Speed bumps are my pet hate all I can say is thank got the body kit just clicks into place. I get quite a bit of bottoming out of my sills that unclips the arches and the underside of the front bumper takes quite a battering in multistoreys. And my c30 is only lowered 30 mm. I wonder if the estates get any tail slap over speed bumps I was in a mildly lowered focus estate and its back bumper thumped off any speedbump or scraped going up ramps.
