I am of a mind to put the factory tour to one side.
Arrive Friday, show Saturday, Museum Sunday, bugger off Monday, or the factory????

Trying to make the public tour on the Friday at 15:00 from Hamburg will be a an exercise without attracting the attention of police type characters. I have no cloaking device, yet..

Some input would be appreciated at this point..

Hi I do not think we would have to book the whole train. The Factory Tour is part of the " Collect your Car fron the Factory " scheme. The Tour on the 14th is probably one of those tours.

Right, the Volvo factory is "Closed" for summer holidays until August 16th. 16" tour is fully booked (I'm told).
The Museum is open all through summer - Mondays excepted.

VROM has study groups at 2 different locations on Friday.
Maybe to late to get there? Depends on when we leave here and arrive there.
Checking availability. Both have Museum visit opportunities.
Saturday is the Classics Rally to Arendal in Göteborg from either Uddevalla (100 km) or Olofström (270 km).
You need to be a "Registered Participant." I have mailed for info on this and what is a "classic".
Sunday is the Exhibition and spares market.

I need to know who is deffo coming.
As the price of channel trip is about £35 - advance booking (inc 2 people) or there abouts to Dunkirk. Sooner we know the better.

Hi,

Looking at ferry times and the initial journey.

Ferry from Dover to Dunkirk is a 2 hour haul - plus we lose an hour on arrival in France as these continentals are an hour ahead of us Brits..

Dunkirk to Hamburg is about 450 miles according to RAC route planner. A 7 hour haul. Add an hour for a lunch stop. 8 hour to 8.5 hours.

My guess is that this will be an early start.
Ferrys leave at 02:00, 04:00, 06:00, 08:00 and 10:00 etc (see attached).
Leave at 06:00 - arrive 09:00 - 9 hours to hamburg and time enough to find accomodation and eats.
This, at least is my thinking.

Thoughts please.

Also, I need to know what car each person coming is bringing as we may (maaaaay) be able to be part of the rally??!!

I spoke to the CR people on Monday and they confirmed to me the factory was closed to 16 August. I assume they open on the 16th..
No tours etc before that date...

This is actually very flexible for VROM since we see as most important that it is a Volvo festivity for ALL Volvo enthusiasts. We usually have a “rolling 20 years old limit” for cars that want to have a place at the Sunday meeting. But this do not apply for cars that are organised in a participating club. Thus 480 and 780 are participating. And this year also 240 since the 200 Club is participating. Other newer Volvos can usually be parked just outside the club area but still “in the meeting”. As you understand we try to include instead of exclude.


Is there space on either of the rallies for additional entrants?

There are a number of Study groups. I believe that one set has been fully booked.
Are there still spaces on the other, and if so which and what time slots?

In Uddevalla both factory visit and rally is fully booked. In Olofström the factory visit is fully booked (you are registered for a visit At the Olofström Vehicle Museum 10.00 to 11.00 and Övre Fabriken (Upper Plant) in Olofström 13.00 to 14.00 and I think I can make room for some more of your friends if you as soon as possible provide the names) but the rally is still open for registration.

I have been told by Volvo CS that the factory (Gothenburg) is closed to 16 August.

That is true due to introduction of new models. But these factory visits are not in Gothenburg, but in Uddevalla and Olofström.

Hi Des, It seems that a factory visit will not be possible during this visit. I will investigate another seperate date and post if something is possible using cheap flights and accomodation. Have a great trip. Hope to meet you at a Volvo meeting sometime in the future;
