2.0i Turbo Conversion?
After the wife's 440 died I have been using the car for spares for my 460. One daft thought I had was to mate the 2.0 block with at 1.7 turbo head. Has anyone else tried this. I seam to remember reading that the head off a 1.7 and a 1.7 turbo were diffrent the reason being that the compresion on the turbo engine was slightly lower. If only I still had my 480turbo!

I don't think it's as easy as that - there are differences with the heads and blocks. I sat a turbo head on the b20f block only to find that the valves and pistons would PROBABLY collide. The B20f head has the valves recessed with the turbo head they are level. Also need to reduce the compression, thicker gasket? machine the pistons? Turbo also has oil sprayers to cool the pistons whereas MOST of the 2 litre engines dont but mine with green dipstick did. Once you're round all that I think you would need to up the fueling and so some ECU tweaking but I never got that far...
Good luck if you go for it! |
