Default V90 key fob

What's the best way of ensuring the key fob for the central locking keeps working?

Mine seems to be temperamental. The batteries are fairly new and I've stripped the fob and cleaned the connections but every so often it just seems to drop out and doesn't fancy working?

Very frustrating when the wife and mother in-law are waiting to get into the car judging you nine ways to Sunday.

Cheers

Normally fobs either work or they don't, if you have a tempramental one, it could be down to wear in the rubber buttons on one end of the scale to a dry solder joint somewhere in the system.

Might be worth trying your spare if you have one (i've two fobs on mine, both the same make as the aftermarket alarm/immobiliser) and one of those is a pain as it has the work ethics of a 1970s coal miner and if you don't have a spare, consider getting one (or two even, usually not much difference between the price of one and two, seems the majority of the cost is in the programming of them.

It may be worth asking the above company to take a look at it- I’ve not checked specifically for your car but they have done two V70 fobs for me and all with a very quick service.

I've only got one fob but I'll have a look at getting another one. They're not overly difficult to find.

I have found with the Volvoguard 1 & 2 alarms fitted to 940s that the system develops an intermittent interest in receiving the signal rather than the fob in sending it.

I’ve had good success repairing the earlier Volvoguard 1 system. The later system remains a mystery to me but there have been posts on here about it in the past. I think someone recommended locating the main relay module and cleaning its electrical connections as a useful first step.

Have a word with Mike at frf parts in Swansea.Excellent service when they supplied me with one for my 940.The part number shown on the Volvo parts list was the wrong one,so didn't work with the relay they also supplied. They informed me that I would have to visit my local Volvo dealer to get it checked, but we came to an agreement that if i returned the parts in question, they,as a Volvo dealer, would be able to test the parts.Which they did.The problem was solved, with just a little patience on both sides.

Thank you Mike at FRF Volvo...
