Default removing fuel sensor 480

I believe I have traced my fuel leak to the fuel gauge sensor housing seal that's on top of the tank. I've removed the rear seats and centre console and found my way to the top of the sensor housing apparatus.

I've disconnected the negative battery lead.

Do I need to do anything special to avoid spraying fuel everywhere/becoming a blazing inferno or am I alright to press on?

The electrical connector is easy to remove. I am, however, having difficulty removing the other two pipes that seem to be screwed into place using 16mm bolts. All that happens when I try to undo them is that the whole unit twists or swivels round. Any tips on getting these off? Once I've done that I think it should be fairly straightforward.

Thanks for your help.
