The E10 thing has been around a while. Germany has had E10 pumps for nearly 10 years. It still has E5 as well, though.

Huffing meths tends to addle the brain I think. My mum used to clean her feet in it whilst watching tv. Pretty weird.

I can only percobulate as I don't have a science degree, but perhaps using a car more frequently results in the exhaust system being cleared of condensation?
