Also, when in true battery only mode you only have 90BHp or such.
See for day to day driving I find the 90bhp surprisingly effortless. It is pure torque after all being an electric engine. It will take you up to 77MPH.

Re the ERAD I’m hoping that was fully sorted before I picked up my current car in case I decide to keep it but nonetheless owing to the costs of repair on what is a complex bit of kit, personally I would be looking to buy a 3rd party warranty if owning a T8 out of manufacturers warranty.

I moved from a much loved D3 to an XC90 T8. It's a 2020 model with the 70l tank and the 11kwh battery. From my perspective:

Pros:
  • Economy - I've averaged 50.5mpg since getting the car in March '20. This is over 7,700 miles and includes a trip to the Alps and two 800mile round trips to Scotland 6 up with roof box and bike on top.
  • Performance - nice to have when you want it.
  • Refinement - it's very quiet.
  • Interior looks.
  • Safety Features.

Cons:
  • The D3 felt more robust. Mine was worked fairly hard - everything felt 'engineered'. After 15 years it still looked like it came out of the showroom. I'll need to be more careful with the XC90.
  • Boot space - it lacks the absolute volume and weight capacity.
  • Third row space - headroom and footspace.
  • Lack of a split tailgate...

General
  • Reliability - so far so good.
  • The Sensus controls are less ergonomic than they should be.
  • Autopilot - it's functional but personally I don't find it smooth enough to use regularly.

What fuel do you all put in your T8.

95 Ron (the standard unleaded) or the 97-99 Ron (the premium pump)

Cheers.

Not sure about XC90 but on XC60 T8 you cannot order the back seat climate control because of the battery taking the place in the central tunnel. You only get the hot/cold air via the B pillar vents

There were a few changes in a short period for the T8 drivetrain:

MY18.5 Uprated battery to 10.8kW
MY19 70 litre fuel tank (up from 50 litres), combined power down from 407HP to 390HP

I’m not sure what the ‘on the road’ impact of 17 fewer horses will bring, I may find out next week when my MY18.5 is swopped for a MY21.5!

Loving the replies folks, definitely getting more of a feel for the car. With the ERAD on second hand car... I’d definitely be asking the question and if its not been replaced then like some have mentioned, I’d be getting a warranty out.

I’m very pleased to hear the feedback ref the mpg and the sort of trips undertaken... Here’s a scenario... my work is 23 ish miles each way, no charging at work... so if the battery was full and i get approx 20 odd miles (the drive is a quiet a/b road normally sat at 50-60 most of the way) then I’d expect my return journey to be all hybrid.... so what sort of length of journey length would allow the battery to recharge? How does that all work?

I’m 99% sure ive seen the 90 with rear air con controls..

I think I’m looking at about a ‘66 -17 plate with approx 40k on it at my budget of £35k... although I’d like to think if a dealer is asking £35k then I’d get it for nearer £32k, as it probably ‘books’ at about £29k!

Will be interesting what the xc90 owners say as it’s a bit heavier than mine. But I would be expecting around the 40 mark if driven sensibly. Which isn’t bad for a 2.2 tonne petrol suv...

Make sure you put the sat nav each day to take you to the destination and back again in a journey. The car will work out when best to deploy electric propulsion to maximise mpg (normally junctions etc where you’re gonna be moving from a halt). That will make sure half the electric charge is used for each leg.

Otherwise the car will just use the electric for the first 18 miles or whatever it is rather than spreading it across the entire journey.

95 Ron most of the time. Very occasionally 97-99 Ron. The difference to me is marginal.

Rear Climate was standard on the 2020 XC90 T8. Not sure about the earlier ones.

Thanks. I do wonder because day to day most of the fuel I use unless pushing the car is just being burnt away in the aux heater tbh.
