Hi folks,

I bought this recently to tide me over while my 740 diesel was resprayed, probably planning to break it afterwards. That said, I think it's not actually so bad, so I thought I'd offer it up for sale to see if anyone wants to take it on. It's in Bristol.

It's a mid-spec 1991 Volvo 940 turbodiesel saloon, with 4-speed automatic transmission. This shares the straight 6 diesel engine with the VW LT. Less than 116k miles from new, which is barely run in for one of these.

Good bits:

It has MOT until May 2018, and previous MOTs have shown little cause for concern
Almost everything seems to work.
It's mega comfy, as all 700/900 Volvos are. Surprisingly quiet at 70MPH on the motorway, and very easy to drive
It's got a reasonable spec for 25+ years old - heated seats and heated mirrors (untested, it's been warm lately), central locking, (working) sunroof.
Bits for these are cheap as chips.
Straight 6 diesel engine (shared with the VW LT vans) makes it surprisingly economical - my 740 estate (same engine, manual gearbox) has averaged 44MPG over the last 15k miles (mostly longer runs).
Clean interior - a bit sun faded and one burn to driver's seat bolster. Inside it smells like a clean old Volvo rather than wet dog.
HUGE boot
No real rust, as is usual for these
Previous owner told me the cambelt was done in the last 1000 miles, but by the MOT history that was sometime in the last 4-5 years
Loads of old MOTs, 3 keys and original handbook

Bad bits:

It's not going to win any beauty contests. This car has a serious case of lacquer peel. The roof, bonnet and bootlid are all quite terrible. That's why I took the photos from low down.
I've just noticed the coolant in the expansion tank has some oil in it. This doesn't smell of head-gasket-failure, and is quite likely to be the oil-water heat exchanger, which is a common failure point which most people bypass.
Both left-hand speakers seem to not be working
Would benefit from an oil change/minor service
