Did this on my C30 a couple of weeks ago, stupidly fiddly but managed in the end. Without this guide I'm not sure I would have thought it possible!

This shows glovebox removal (starts about halfway down the page).

Excellent write up. I will eventually be tackling this job when I come to service my car.

How do you know if you need a standard pollen filter or a carbon filter?

Best to get a genuine Volvo carbon filter, they're not too expensive and you can use this forum to get a discount (usually covers the postage cost).

Thanks Welton. Is this the site you all use for parts?

I have used them but mostly I mail order direct from FRF Volvo Swansea using the forum code C3 to get a discount. I've had loads of stuff from them and always good service direct to your door.

Default Good stuff

Just wanted to thank you for this guide.
I just managed to change my pollen filter.
It took me about an hour.
I slid out fusebox from the cradle and removed connectors sitting at the top side of the box. Then removed fusedbox completely, unscrewed two screws keeping the cradle to the back of the wall, and removed the cradle to minimize disturb. Then just unscrewed one little screw from the filter compartment cover (in the middle of it) and here we go. Removed filter, stick the new one in (with the correct flow direction) and ready (after fitting everything back in of course).
I'm really proud of myself but wouldn't do it without this guide!
Thank you all for your advise.

Ps. I managed to do it all without even touching the flooring/carpet - I didn't remove it as was afraid to break it.

Did this today using your guide but I also removed the glove box for better access albeit not much better. About 7 screws holding it on and a few wires going into the back of it to disconnect but easy enough. The new filter needs to be compressed to get it through the tight access hole and into its housing compartment. I also disconnected the battery encase any wiring got unseated from the cem. I didn't worry about removing the cem mounting bracket but it would give a bit more space to get at the filter.
Overall no dramas on reconnecting apart from a reset clock.

Many thanks.

Hi

I'm likely to attempt this shortly now that the better weather is here. Just wondering if the procedure is the same for a Mk2 2008 C70 2.4i as most of the posts so far seem to relate to S40's C30's and V50's?

Thanks in advance

My 2009 C70 was very similar, except that I'm in the US, left-hand drive, so had to remove the accelerator pedal to get to the filter.

I have had 'pleasure' to do this job last weekend, and I have to admit - it was a bit fiddly but much less scary than I actually thought. Maybe because I have read this guide and combined all good ideas, maybe because I was lucky and everything went smoothly, but doing it 1st time took me about 30mins including 2 brief breaks for rain (Irish weather... :/ ).
What I did was:
- disconnect battery
- remove fuseboard compeletely
- fold the carpet a bit (I think unnecessary step)
- replace the filter by squeezing it out and back in like harmonica
- assembly the car back, fire up with big "phew...." that all works.

I used MANN pollen filter with active carbon and antibacterial layer, best I found. Its a bit more stretchy than OEM one (maybe thats why it was easier to put it back) but looks very decent.

My advice for anybody undertaking this in the future:
- long telescopic magnet (put it under every screw you are unscrewing), helped me to catch 1 screw that would have fallen under the carpet otherwise
- comfy sponge or cushion for the ground and door sill, so your knee and ribs are not sore and gives you more patience. Dog-training mat was perfect in that case :P

good luck! :]
