Default Petrol Automatic Stalling problem

Hi Everyone,

I've got a 1996 Volvo V40 Automatic. There's 104,000 on the clock so low mileage for a car of this age. For an old car it's pretty solid however recently it's developed a fault where the engine cuts out when I stop. Almost like when you stall in a manual, except it's an auto so shouldn't do it! It's inconvenient at red lights but at roundabouts it's a bloody hazard!

Any ideas what might be causing it and will it be expensive to fix? The car was given to me by a friend who's moved countries however she's coming back in a few weeks and wants to borrow it back for a couple of road trips!

Your advice is much appreciated!

Thanks
