Rear suspension creak
Hi all, I have a 2003 S40 and recently the rear suspension has developed a creak on the near side. With the seat back folded down its very evident from the suspension unit top mount. If the vehicle is bounced while stationary it can be heard from up under the wheel arch.
To me it sounds like a rubber on metal creak. Has anyone experienced this noise,? Is it a common thing for S40s? I will be removing the suspension leg and the spring and at very least lubricating under the mount. Just wondered if these are prone to it? |

Mine was doing the same, but also knocking over small bumps.
I replaced the rubber rear strut mount seats and the rear feels a lot more solid, and no longer squeaks or knocks. Also only £6 each. I only changed the seats on advice from PFS who said it is the rubber that wears, not the mount itself. ==> PFS link <== Hope that helps. |

rear suspension creak
Hi All,
Had a loud creak from the N/S/R suspension, originally thought it might be the leg top mount rubber. Once I started to strip a few bits off, it turned out to be the upper connecting link inner bush. Unfortunately you can't just get the bush, so it's a new link. Volvo genuine part £100, GSF about £42. So, they are worth checking if you get strange creaking over rough ground. Boz |
