S40: - Is it my S40 Gearbox??

Help.
On my 2002 1.8 S40 its now becoming difficult to get the car into 2nd and 3rd gear especially when changing down. It takes two attempts and eventually works. Is this going to mean a new gearbox? I want to go on a long run tomorrow with it too.
The car has done 210k but engine just purrs beatifully. If it is the gearbox then should I plump for a used one or a new one. I have no idea what it would cost or how much a my local garage would charge to fit one. The clutch was replaced 5000 miles ago and has a two yr warranty on it.

Brilliant information thank you. So relieved its probably hte bushes. Been to Volvo and got the parts for my local mechanic to fix as am rreally beyond grovelling under car myself.
